During the German occupation of France, the Germans have built an underground factory to produce liquid oxygen for the V2 rocket. The factory is situated in an old chalk quarry of Caumont-sur-Seine . It has been abandoned in July 1944 when the Germans fled from the progressing Allied army. Today, despite the corrosion of time and weather, a large, ghostly bunker is well preserved. It is 300 metres long, built with 20000 tons of concrete. More information (in French and in German) here.
